To the man who sat next to me on the train. I don’t know why you thought it was ok to insult me with very rude and sexist comments when I had made it clear it made me uncomfortable.  And why you scared me so much I had to move seats. And why you continued to be rude to other passengers and play loud music for the rest of the journey. 

To his friend – why did you think it was ok to join in with his behaviour? I would find better friends.

To the 3 woman who laughed at the comments he made to me and engaged in conversation with him. I hope you never find yourself in a similar situation and if you do, your fellow females don’t treat you as poorly as you did me.

However.  To the other man who was sat across from me, thank you so much for trying to help and protect me. You put yourself in the firing line and the outcome could have been much different.  You guided me to a safer seat and stayed close for the journey and for that I am very grateful. 

Before anyone says “why didn’t you report him”. If I had seen a member of train staff maybe I would? But what would that have done? Most people are so scared to say or do anything to stop this kind of behaviour.  I guess they could have called the police and taken him off at the next station? The train was already running an hour late – my fellow passengers would have just loved me!

He said he had been in the military.  My father was in the military – he would never have treated anyone, let alone a woman, like that!

There’s just no excuse.
