I think we can all agree that 2020 hasn’t gone to plan and has been a very difficult year for many people.

Given this, rather than send out gifts this year I have decided instead to support a local charity.

Cross Gates and District Good Neighbours is a local charity which works with, and for people over 60, in the Cross Gates, Leeds area to reduce loneliness and isolation and support independence, health and wellbeing.

Their office is currently closed to visitors but the team is still taking calls from anyone requiring advice, information or support for themselves, or people they are caring for.  Since the pandemic began in March, they have been working extremely hard to ensure that their members are well supported during these uncertain times.

They have delivered over 950 food parcels; have contacted all our 1200 members by telephone and continue to make weekly befriending calls.

In addition, they have also collected and delivered over 300 prescriptions, delivered hot meals, activity packs, iPads and tablets, bingo tickets/prizes. 41 members have been trained on how to use Zoom so that they can join in with our online activities.

I am delighted to have been able to deliver approximately 140 food items to them, to be made up into food packages to distribute among their members over the festive period.

A continued thank you from me, and the team for your support in 2020.  We hope you have a wonderful Christmas, even in these very strange times, and look forward to a better 2021.
